Collector notes

The Kar 98a is the First World War carbine issued to cavalry, artillery, and other troops who needed a shorter rifle. The stacking hook under the muzzle and the turned-down bolt are the quick field identification points. It is not a K98k. Barrel length, band arrangement, and the hook distinguish it at a glance. Many were later rebuilt; a clean original hook and an unmolested front band are worth more than a polished import.
