Gewehr 98

1916 · DWM · 7.92×57 mm (S-Patrone / sS)

Collector notes

The Gewehr 98 remains the parent of the later carbine family. This DWM example shows the long barrel, Lange rear sight, and straight bolt handle of the wartime infantry rifle. Collector interest is in matching numbers, the condition of the Lange sight leaf, and whether the stock is original walnut rather than a later replacement. Many surviving 1916 rifles passed through interwar rebuilds; Weimar 1920 property stamps and later depot work should be read as history, not automatically as damage to originality.
